Solution

The correct option is B Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion
Substrate level phosphorylation occurs during glycolysis. In this process phosphorylation (that is addition of phosphate group) to Glucose (substrate). This transfer occurs at two steps, the 1st step or the preparatory phase, with the help of enzyme Hexokinase and next where Fructose-1-phospate is converted to Fructose-1,6-bisphosphate.
In the next phase also known as the pay off phase the two ATP molecules utilized are synthesized or given back the system. This also occurs in two stages
1) the conversion of 1,6 Bisphosphogycerate to 6-phosphoglycerate releases 1 ATP molecule and
2) in the last stage where phosphoenolpyruvate is converted to pyruvate.
So, the correct answer is 'Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion'
