Solution
The correct option is A Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion When current is passed through copper voltmeter, CuSO4 (electrolyte) dissociated into Cu++ and SO−−4 ions. Cu++ ions drift towards the cathode and after taking two electrons from the cathode become Cu atom and is deposited on the cathode. SO−−4 ions move towards the anode and react with Cu++ ions to form CuSO4. CuSO4 so formed is dissolved in the solution to preserve the concentration of CuSO4. This is possible only if anode is made of copper.
