Solution

The correct option is A Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
When current is passed through copper voltmeter, CuSO4 (electrolyte) dissociated into Cu++ and SO4 ions. Cu++ ions drift towards the cathode and after taking two electrons from the cathode become Cu atom and is deposited on the cathode. SO4 ions move towards the anode and react with Cu++ ions to form CuSO4. CuSO4 so formed is dissolved in the solution to preserve the concentration of CuSO4. This is possible only if anode is made of copper.
