Whenever any linear force acts on an object, the object behaves as if the whole mass is concentrated at one specific point. This point is known as the centre of mass.
If any force field such as electric, magnetic gravitational etc., is acting uniformly then the forces are acting along straight lines parallel to each other. It can't be assumed to be acting on only one point.
