Solution
The correct option is C Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect DNA fingerprinting was developed by Alec Jeffarey in 1986. This technique reveals polmorphism in DNA. The DNA fingerprint will be same for all the cells of an individual. The genome of every human cell contains scattered, short highly repeated segments of DNA sequences. These are called minisatellites or Variable Number Tandem Repeats (VNTR). The DNA fingerprints are used in archeology, palaeontology and various medical diagnostics including the genetic disorder. The technique is extensively used for diagnosis of many inherited diseases like Huntington's, Alzheimer's etc. in prenatal and newborn babies but not helpful in the treatment of these inherited disorders.
