The correct option is B Both A and R are true but R does not explain A. The equator faces the sun directly. Therefore, equatorial regions receive more amount of solar energy. But in the polar regions, the sunlight falls obliquely. Thus, these regions receive less solar energy. So we can say that the amount of solar energy received by a region changes with latitude. So, the statement of assertion is correct.
If we go to high altitude, the temperature decreases as the density of the atmosphere reduce gradually as we go up. So, the statement of reason is also correct.
