Joule Thomson Effect-The phenomenon of change of temperature produced when a gas is made to expand adiabatically from a region of high pressure through a region of extremely low pressure through a small jet.
The effect is zero for an ideal gas in which van der Waal's forces of attraction are negligible and there is no expenditure of energy in overcoming these forces of reaction.
