The correct option is C Both are True and Reason correctly explains Assertion
Statement 1 is true and statement 2 is also true and correct reason for statement 1. The kinetic temperature of a gas is defined by kinetic theory for a small body of gas and the effect of gravity is neglected. The kinetic temperature T=Mc2R. But the atmosphere is of large extent and the effect of gravity is to be taken into account. Due to weight the pressure falls rapidly with height. So temperature decreases with height.
