Solution

The correct option is A Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion.

Explanation:

Mendeleev's periodic table was based on arranging elements in increasing atomic weight which is failed to locate the position of isotopes in periodic table and many more properties were failed to explain. Modern periodic table was based on the atomic number rather than atomic weight of the elements. Since all isotopes of an element have the same number of protons, their atomic number is also the same. And since all isotopes of an element have the same atomic number, they can be put at the same position in the periodic table.

Position of Ar&K=>The atomic number of argon is 18 and its mass number is 40 while the atomic number of Potassium is 19 and its mass number is 39. So, The missing elements were given position with their properties in modern table The modern periodic table remove various anomalies of Mendeleev's periodic table.
