Sodium acetate is a strong electrolyte and acetic acid is a weak electrolyte. When sodium acetate is added to the acetic acid solution, the ionization of the acetic acid is suppressed due to the common ion effect.
Sodium acetate provides acetate ion which is common to acetic acid. Due to the suppression of the ionization of acetic acid, the hydrogen ion concentration decreases. This increases the pH of the solution.
