Question

Assertion :Two coaxial conducting rings of different radii are placed in space. The mutual inductance of both the rings is maximum if the rings are also coplanar. Reason: For two coaxial conducting rings of different radii, the magnitude of magnetic flux in one ring due to current in the other is maximum when both the rings are coplanar.

Solution

The correct option is A Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
magnetic flux is given by ϕ=B.A. It will be maximum when the dot product of B and A will maximize for the given values of B and A, i.e. , when the angle between them is zero. And when this dot product maximizes, so does the flux linkage between the two rings and hence also the mutual inductance.
