Solution
The correct option is ABoth Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion.
To generate virus free plants, the apical meristem from the infected plant is collected and cultivated in an appropriate media, so that a new, complete and virus free plant can be obtained. It is due to the fact that viruses spread systematically in the whole plant except the meristems. The molecular and cellular mechanisms allow the pluripotent cells of the meristems to stay uninfected. Viruses can reproduce in the host cell by performing the normal cell activities and forcing the cell to biosynthesize new viral particles. They are inert in the basence of the host cells. So, the correct option is A.
