Solution

The correct option is C Both the Assertion and the reason are false
Tracheophytes are those plants which possess conducting or vascular tissues, i.e. xylem and phloem. Xylem transports water and minerals and phloem conducts organic food.
Polytrichum is a moss which belongs to the division Bryophyta. Bryophytes are non-vascular terrestrial plants of moist habitats in which a multicellular diploid sporophyte lives as a parasite on an independent multicellular haploid gametophyte.Polytrichumdoes not possess vascular tissues, but they possess some water-conducting tissues called hydroids and leptome, which are analogous to xylem and phloem respectively. So polytrichum is said to have a vascular system and it can be classified under tracheophytes, even though it is a bryophyte. So the assertion is false.
Polytrichum belongs to bryophytes and that itself is enough to state that the reason is false.
Since both the assertion and the reason are wrong, option 'C' is the correct option.
