Question

Assertion :We cannot produce a real image by plane or convex mirrors under any circumstances. Reason: If image distance of a real object in front of a convex mirror is taken as negative, then the focal length of a convex mirror is taken as positive.

Solution

The correct option is D Assertion is incorrect but Reason is correct
There are a number of ways to obtain a real image from plane and convex mirrors. Best counter example has been shown in the attached figures where mirrors form a real image I of a virtual object O.
According to sign convention, distances measured in the direction of light are taken as positive. Hence, focal length of convex mirror is positive.
