Question

assume that a car is able to stop with a retardation of 8ms-2 and that a driver can react to an emergency in 0.5s calculate the overall stopping distance of the car for a speed of 60kmh-1 of the car

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student ,
Initial velocity = u = 60 km/h = 16.67 m/s
Final velocity = v = 0
time taken = t = 0.5 s
Retardation = a =8 m/s2

So stopping distance is ,s=ut-12at2=16·67×0·5-12×8×0·25=7·335 m
