Question

At 27oC it was observed during a reaction of hydrogenation that the pressure of hydrogen gas decreases from 2 atmosphere to 1.1 atmosphere in 75 minutes. Calculate the rate of reaction (in M sec1) and rate of reaction in terms of pressure.

Open in App
Solution

Rate of reaction=changeinpressuretimetaken

=21.175×60atm/sec

=2×104atm/sec

so convert to mol/sec

Pv=nRT

nV=PRT

(nv)/sec= molarity per second=PRT/sec

since pressure/second is rate.

(nv)/sec=2×1040.0821×300=8.12×106mol/sec

Thus, the rate of the reaction is 8.12×106mol/sec
