Question

At 300C dry air[75%N2+25%O2] is placed over H2O (I) at 800 torr combined pressure of all 3 gases. If pressure is gradually increased isothermally to 1560 torr, then calculate partial pressure of O2 at high pressure in torr.
[V.PH2O=40 torr at 30oC]

Solution

We know that PN2+PO2=PTotal at 30oC,800torr
Total pressure increased at 30oC to 1560torr .
It was given that= PTotal=1560torr,PH2O=40torr
PN2+PO2+PH2O=PTotal
PN2+PO2+40=1560
PN2+PO2=1520
75100×1520=1140=PN2
25100×1520=380=PO2
