Solution
The correct option is D$1.25
Let the price of of candy bars be x and price of potato chips bags be y.
Since it is given that two candy bars and two bags of potato chips cost $4.00, therefore the equation becomes:
2x+2y=4 ......(1)
Also, three candy bars and two bags of potato chips cost $4.75, the equation is:
3x+2y=4.75 ....(2)
Subtract equation (1) from (2), we get
(3x−2x)+(2y−2y)=4.75−4
⇒x=.75
Now substitute the value of x in equation (1):
1.5+2y=4
⇒2y=4−1.5
⇒2y=2.5
⇒y=1.25
Hence, the price of one bag of potato chips is $1.25.
