Let $R s x$ be the sum, then according to question, the amount will be $R s 3 x$ . Then simple interest will be,

$S . I . = A m o u n t - P r i n c i p l e$

$= 3 x - x$

$= 2 x$

The time is given as 16 years.

$S . I . = \frac{P \times R \times T}{100}$

$2 x = \frac{x \times R \times 16}{100}$

$R = \frac{2 x \times 100}{x \times 16}$

$R = 12.5 %$
