At what voltage is the alternating current supplied to our houses?

Open in App
Solution

  1. The electric power line enters in our house through three wires- which are the live wire, earth wire and the neutral wire.
  2. There is a color codes assigned to these wire, like the red colored wire is live wire, the black colored wire is neutral and the green insulated wire is earth wire.
  3. The potential of live wire is 220volts whereas the potential of neutral wire is 0volts.
  4. We know that, Voltage is nothing but the potential difference between wires.

So, in this case, the voltage will be 220-0=220V

Therefore, at 220V the alternating current supplied to our houses,
