During Oogenesis only one egg cell or ovum is released at the end of meiotic division. Here, after first meiotic division one cell is functional while other forms the non-functional first polar body. In meiosis II, again two cells are formed from the functional secondary oocyte of which one forms the second polar body, while the other one develops into an ovum.Hence, there are two polar bodies formed during oogenesis.
