Attenuation of fiber optics is in db/km.
In optical fibers, attenuation is the rate at which the signal light decreases in intensity. For this reason, glass fiber is used for long-distance fiber optic cables; plastic fiber has a higher attenuation and, hence, shorter range.
The attenuation of an optical fiber is expressed by the attenuation coefficient which is defined as the loss of the fiber per unit length, in dB/km.
