Placentation is the arrangement of ovules within the ovary.
When the placenta is axial and the ovules are attached to it in a multilocular ovary, the placentation is said to be axile. In multicarpellary syncarpous ovaries, the carpels fuse to form septa which forms a central axis. The ovules are arranged on this axis. Examples are lemon, china rose and tomato.
Argemone, dianthus and pea are examples of parietal, free central and marginal placentation, respectively.
