By splitting the figure into rectangles, find the area of the figure. (The measures are given in centimetres)

Area of ABCD = 3$\times$1 = 3 $c{m}^2$.

Area of BJEF = 3$\times$1= 3 $c{m}^2$.

Area of FGHI = 3$\times$1= 3 $c{m}^2$.

Total area of the figure = 3 + 3 + 3 = 9 $c{m}^2$.
