(B) Classify the following as physical or chemical change.
(iii) Switching on the bulb
Part I - Definition
Physical change - A change in which no new substance is formed and only there is a change in shape, size, state and color is termed as physical change.
Chemical change - A change in which new substances in form of products are formed due to the occurrence of a chemical reaction is termed a chemical change.
Part II - Classification
Switching on the bulb is a physical change as when electricity passes through the bulb the electrons are excited to a higher energy level and when they return back to a lower energy level they emit light.
Here we find that no chemical reaction is taking place and only there is absorption and evolution of energy.
Therefore, Switching on the bulb is a physical change
