Compare the fractions and put an appropriate sign:

$\frac{1}{7}\square \frac{1}{4}$

The given fractions $\frac{1}{7},\frac{1}{4}$ are unlike fractions because they have different denominators.

When we compare two unlike fractions, we first get their equivalent fractions with a denominator which is a common multiple of the denominators of both the fractions.

The LCM of 7 and 4 is 28.

The equivalent fractions with the same denominator are :

$\frac{1}{7}=\frac{1\times 4}{7\times 4}=\frac{4}{28}$ and $\frac{1}{4}=\frac{1\times 7}{4\times 7}=\frac{7}{28}$

Now, $\frac{4}{28}<\frac{7}{28}$

$\therefore$ $\frac{1}{7}\begin{array}{c}<\end{array}\frac{1}{4}$
