The three patterns of cropping are:​ ​
  1. Mixed cropping: Mixed cropping refers to the growing of two or more crops simultaneously on the same agricultural field. Growing wheat and groundnut on the same field is called mixed cropping.​
  2. Intercropping: In intercropping, two or more crops like soybean and maize or finger millet and cowpea are grown in the same field in a definite pattern.​
  3. Crop rotation: Growing different crops on a piece of land in pre-planned succession is known as crop rotation.​
