Question 2 (b)
State for the following whether it is due to evaporation or condensation:
Steam rising from wet clothes while they are ironed.
Steam rising from wet clothes while they are ironed. This phenomenon occurs due to the process, known as evaporation.
The wet clothes contain water in them. When it comes in contact with the iron box, which is a hotter object, the water from the wet clothes gets converted into water vapour and is seen as steam rising from the wet clothes. This process of conversion of water from its liquid form (state) into vapour or gaseous form (state) is known as evaporation.
