Open in App
Solution

  • We consume iodised salt in our diet, it contains iodine which is necessary for producing thyroxine in the thyroid gland.
  • Thyroxine controls the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins and hence helps in the proper growth of the body.
  • The decreased intake of iodine causes a condition called goitre that leads to the swelling of the thyroid gland which is visible as a swollen neck.
