Initial population of bacteria = 1

Population of bacteria after 15 minutes = 2 × 1 = 2

Population of bacteria after (15 + 15) minutes, i.e., 30 minutes = 2 × 2 = 4

Population of bacteria (15 + 30) minutes, i.e., 45 minutes = 2 × 4 = 8

Population of bacteria (15 + 45) minutes, i.e., 60 minutes = 2 × 8 = 16
