Solution

The correct option is A It can take place without water.
The bacteria have only photosystem I and can perform cyclic photophosphorylation. The hydrogen donor is hydrogen sulphide or other chemical compounds. There is no involvement of water or splitting of water molecules for donating the hydrogen ions and electrons. As there is no splitting of water and oxygen is not the final acceptor there is no release of oxygen in the process.
Thus, the correct answer is option B.
