Bose established the INA headquarters in Yangon and Singapore and began the training of recruits on 21 October 1943. For maximum efficiency, the INA was divided into several brigades like the ‘Gandhi Brigade’, ‘Azad Brigade’, ‘Nehru Brigade’. ‘Bal Fouj’ was formed for boys and girls who wanted to contribute to the national movement. Special brigades like the ‘Number One Guerilla’ and ‘Rani Jhansi Brigade’ were placed under Shah Khan and Captain Lakshmi Swaminathan respectively. 'Rani Jhansi Brigade' had only women soldiers, while the 'Number One Guerilla' had the best members from all other brigades.
