Question

Balance: Na+H2ONaOH+H2.

Open in App
Solution

The skeletal equation:Na+H2ONaOH+H2

Step 1: As the three elements that are involved in the reaction are Na,OandH. So just count the number of times an element is involved on both the left-hand as well as the right-hand side of the equation.

Element

Reactant (LHS)

Product (RHS)

Sodium11
Oxygen11
Hydrogen23

So, as the Hydrogen atoms are not equal on both the sides that's why this is an unbalanced equation.

Step 2: So now for balancing the equation, on multiplying NaOHandH2O by 2, we will get a total of four Hydrogen atoms on both the sides of the equation, Now further to balance the Sodium atoms, we have to multiply Na by 2.

Element

Reactant (LHS)

Product (RHS)

Sodium22
Oxygen22
Hydrogen44

Therefore, the Reaction: 2Na+2H2O2NaOH+H2
