Balance the following chemical equation and identify the type of chemical reaction?
H2O2(l)UVH2O(l)+O2(g).

Open in App
Solution

Part 1: Balancing the chemical reaction
A balanced chemical reaction represents a reaction in which the number of atoms of each element is equal on both the reactant and product sides.
2H2O2(l)UV2H2O(l)+O2(g)

Atoms on the reactant side:
Oxygen =4
Hydrogen =4

Atoms on the product side:

Oxygen =2+2=4

Hydrogen =4

Part 2: Identifying the type of reaction

The above reaction is a Decomposition Reaction in which hydrogen peroxide(H2O2) decomposes to produce water(H2O) and hydrogen(H2).

This type of chemical reaction involves breaking down a compound into smaller compounds or individual elements. These reactions often involve the input of energy in the form of heat, light, or electricity to break down the compounds.
