Question

Balance the following equation b hit and trial method :. NH4Cl + Ca(OH)2 ------------> CaCl2 + H2O + NH3

Open in App
Solution

First we see NO.of Cl=2 on right hanbd side,so to balance it ,we make it 2NH4Cl

So equation becomes

2NH4Cl + Ca(OH)2 = CaCl2 + NH3 + 2H2O

Now we see on LHS(left hand side) We have 2N ,but on RHS only 1N ,So to make it balanced We make it 2NH3

So equation becomes

2NH4Cl + Ca(OH)2 = CaCl2 + 2NH3 + 2H2O

Now we can see all atoms are balancedd on both sides
LHS
N=2
H=2*4+2=10
Cl=2
Ca=1
O=2
RHS
Ca=1
Cl=2
N=2
H=2*3+2*2=10
O=2
