Question

Balance the following unbalanced reaction:

PbS+H2O2PbSO4+H2O

Open in App
Solution

Steps involved in balancing a chemical reaction:

Step 1: Write unbalanced equation.

PbS+H2O2PbSO4+H2O

Step 2: Write down the number of atoms of each elements present on both reactant as well as product side.

Element Reactant side Product side

Pb 1 1

S 1 1

H 2 2

O 2 5

Step 3: Add coefficients to balance the number of atoms at both the sides

Firstly balance O at reactant side by adding 4 before H2O2.

PbS+4H2O2PbSO4+H2O

Secondly balance O and H at product side by adding 4 before H2O.

PbS+4H2O2PbSO4+4H2O

Balanced equation is:

PbS+4H2O2PbSO4+4H2O

Lead(II)sulphide Hydrogen peroxide Lead(II)sulphate Water
