Question

Balance the reaction : H2S+SO2S+H2O and identify the Oxidizing and Reducing agents

Open in App
Solution

  1. The balanced reaction can be given as: 2H2S(g)+SO2(g)3S(s)+2H2O(l)(Hydrogensulphide)(Sulphurdioxide)(Sulphur)(Water).
  2. Oxidizing agent: Here, Sulphur dioxide (SO2) acts as Oxidizing agent because it loses Oxygen atom and get reduced to S(Sulphur) therefore, it acts as Oxidizing agent.
  3. Reducing agent: In this reaction, H2S (Hydrogen sulphide) by gaining Oxygen atom, it is oxidized to H2O (Water) therefore, it acts as Reducing agent.
