Let the number Barun thinks of is $x$
He adds 40 to it and gets $x + 40$ .
Then, he divides the whole thing by 5 and gets $\frac{x + 40}{5}$ which is equal to the number he thought of

$\Rightarrow \frac{x + 40}{5} = x \Rightarrow x + 40 = 5 \times x \Rightarrow 40 = 5 x - x \Rightarrow 40 = 4 x \Rightarrow 4 x = 40 \Rightarrow x = \frac{40}{4} \Rightarrow x = 10$

So, the number Barun thought is 10.
