Based on group valency of elements state the formula :
(i) Halides of the elements of group 13 ,and
(ii) Compounds formed when an element of group to combines with an element of group 16

Dear Student,
(i) Halides of group 13
The valency of group 13 elements = group number -10 =3
So the oxidation state of metal M =+3
The oxidation state of Cl = -1
So the general formula = MCl3
(ii) Group 2 elements have number of valence electrons = 2

Group 16 have valence electrons = 16-10 =6 so the valency will be 2
Let the element of group 2 be M
and group 16 be N
M2+ +N-2
Formula of the compound MN
