Solution

The correct option is D Be, Mg
According to Newlands' law of octaves, if then known elements were arranged in the increasing order of their atomic masses, every eighth element had properties similar to that of the first.

The properties of lithium and sodium were found to be the same. Sodium is the eighth element after lithium. Similarly, beryllium and magnesium resemble each other. Same way, boron and aluminium also resemble each other. Aluminium is the seventh element after carbon. So, they cannot be a set of Newlands' octave and hence they will not have similar properties.
