Solution

The correct option is B
The new Moon occurs when the Moon is positioned between the Earth and the Sun. The entire illuminated portion of the Moon is on the back side of the Moon.
The first quarter Moon happens when the Moon is at a 90 degree angle with respect to the Earth. So we see exactly half of the Moon illuminated and half in shadow.
After the new Moon, the sunlit portion increaes, but less than half. So, this position lies between the new Moon and first quarter Moon called waxing crescent.
After the first quarter, the sunlit portion still increases, but now it is more than half called waxing gibbous.
