Question

Based on the following information, arrange four metals A, B, C and D in order of decreasing ability to act as reducing agents:
(I) Only A, B and C react with 1 MHCl to give H2(g)
(II) When C is added to solutions of the other metal ions, metiallic B and D are formed
(III) Metal C does not reduce An+

Solution

The correct option is D A > C > B > D
D does not react with HCl, so it is not easily oxidized as compared to A, B and C.
C reduced B as well as D but is unable to reduce A. Hence, C is oxidised easily than B and D.
So, A is oxidized easily as compared to other metals therefore, it has ability to act as easily as compared to other metals.
