The storage material in a seed is endosperm. Based on the presence or absence of endosperm, seeds have been classified into following two types:
Albuminous or endospermous seeds: In this type of seeds, the endosperm is not consumed by the developing embryo. For example, Wheat and Maize.
Ex-albuminous or non-endospermous seeds: In this type of seeds, the endosperm is fully consumed by the developing embryo. For example, Pea and Groundnut.
