Fires are classified into 3 types:
Class A: Class A fires involve common combustibles such as wood, paper, cloth, rubber and plastic. Generally water or water fire extinguishers are used to put off these fires.
Class B: This class of fire involves flammable liquids, gases, paint, oil, gasoline tars and other synthetic based products.
Class C: This class of fires involves fire due to electrical equipments. Class C fire cannot and should not be fought with water. Carbon dioxide fire extinguisher and other loaded with wet chemicals are effective.
