Before entering into the national movement of India, Mahatma Gandhi launched a few early campaigns.These were:

1. His first experiment in Satyagraha was launched at Champaran in Bihar in 1917. He instigated the peasants to fight against the oppressive plantation system.​

2..He also organised a satyagraha for the peasants of the Kheda districts of Gujarat. These peasants could not pay their taxes because of crop failure and epidemics. ​

3. In Ahmedabad, he organised a movement amongst cotton mill workers. who were being exploited.
