9 boxes
Ben has 43 balls and Sam has 55 balls.
43 = 40 + 3
43 = 4 tens and 3 ones
55 = 50 + 5
55 = 5 tens + 5 ones
43 + 55 = (4 tens and 3 ones) + (5 tens + 5 ones)
= (4 + 5) tens + (3 + 5) ones
= 9 tens + 8 ones
So, they can pack 9 boxes with 10 balls in each box.
