Bentham and Hooker classified dicots into Polypetalae, gamopetale and monochlamydae. They actually followed de Candolle's system of classification and divided spermaphyta into dicotyledons, gymnospermae and monocotyledons. Dicots were grouped as -(i) polypetalae, gamopetalae and monochlamydae (unisexual flowers). Polypetalae were divided into three series thalamiflorae (hypogynous flowers), disciflorae (cushion like disc shaped thalamus) and calyciflorae (epigynous flowers).
