Benzylamine or Aniline reacts with Nitrous acid (HNO2) to form diazonium ions. Aqueous solutions of these diazonium ions have sufficient stability at 0º to 10 ºC but beyond that, they release N2 gas and forms a carbocation. Water molecule from the solvent acts as a nucleophile and ultimately forms Phenol in the given manner.
