Question

Bond formation is always

Open in App
Solution

Bond formation- Bonds are formed when valence electrons; the electrons in the outermost electronic shell of an atom, interact with each other.

  • As the formation of bonds increases the stability of the bonded atoms, heat gets liberated during the process.
  • Therefore, bond formation is always an exothermic reaction.

Exothermic reaction-

  • An exothermic reaction is a reaction for which the overall standard enthalpy change ΔH0 is negative.
  • Exothermic reactions usually release heat.

Hence, bond formation is always exothermic.
