This way it prevents food particles and liquids from entering the larynx and trachea. When a person hurries with his meal, and is also engaged in talking, both the passages land up remaining open . The food swallowed easily enters the windpipe causing violent coughs as the tracheal muscles contract to evict the food particle out. In Boojho’s case, this is what must have happened.
