Question

Both antacids and antiallergic drugs are antihistamines but they cannot replace each other. Explain why?

Open in App
Solution

Anti-allergic and antacid drugs work on different receptors. Anti-allergic drugs remove allergenic symptoms by blocking receptors activated during an allergic reaction. Whereas antacids block receptors present in the stomach lining, thereby lowering excess production of acid and removing acidity. Therefore, they do not interfere with each other's functions but interfere with the functions of specific histamines.
